Our Crazy Little Boy

So... A lot has been going on lately with our little man. I think most of you have seen things on facebook about his allergies. He's allergic to wheat, eggs, milk, soy, peanuts, cats, dogs.... We see the allergist in about a week and a half to get more info. I have hope though that we might get some good news after his skin tests! I was talking to a friend of mine last night who has a son who has struggled with severe allergies as well, and she said that his blood tests said he was allergic to EVERYTHING! But after the skin tests they were able to rule out a lot of those. He has also grown out of all of his allergies except milk! Yay! I believe he is now 6 or 7, so I am so happy to hear that! Right now we are just trying our hardest to find some variety (and carbs) in his diet and learn how to cook with our new set of ingredients (which are many.) We sure love our little boy and feel so much better about feeding him now. He no longer throws up like he used to. The only time he has was when he got a bite of someone's pop-tart that fell on the floor. We have to be even more careful these days! And his eczema has never been so good! People can finally see that cute little boy that was hiding under all that yucky eczema! It was just a couple months ago when people stopped saying, "What is wrong with his skin?!" and started saying, "Wow, look at his beautiful eyes!" or, "He is so cute!" That sure makes a Mama happy!

Don't worry though... Allergies are not the only thing he has going on right now... Our other possible issues involve his growth hormones. We might have a problem with that. We will be going back to the endocrinologist in a couple of weeks for some more testing. His levels have been off in the last 2 or 3 rounds of blood work we have done. Poor guy! We'll see how it goes!

Boy, we wish we had allocated more money for our Flex account. We've burned through that and still have more to pay for! *sigh*

Our crazy little boy!

Jenna, This is Nate's wife M.C. I just wanted to let you know that my niece had all of those same allergies. They discovered it when she was about 2 months old and so my sister had to breast feed her exclusively and she couldn't eat any of those things herself. It was really hard for a few months, but around 9 months they slowly started trying her on other stuff and now she really only has to deal with the milk allergy. (They still aren't sure about peanuts and fish, but those can be dangerous and aren't really necessary for a one year old so they haven't tried them yet.) My sister had a really hard time with all of the doctor appointments and her little girl being sick all of the time, but after only a few months she is like a totally different baby. Also, sometimes the doctors wouldn't listen to my sister, so she had to just trust her instincts on things. I just wanted to let you know because although it was hard, it really only ended up being a few months and now her little girl is perfectly healthy (slightly on the small side) and their lives are a million times better. I hope everything works out for you guys!

Wow, Jenna. That's a lot too deal with! Have you guys ever tried quinoa? If not, it's delicious. It's a really healthy grain that is also a complete protien. You buy it in the health food section and cook it just like rice. It's delicious and it doesn't have any of those allergens in it. Also, I have lots of wheat-free recipes that can be made dairy-free, so let me know after the skin testing if you want me to send you some. =) Good luck and I'm glad he's feeling better!
